Cavanaugh Lecture Features Memoirist, Creative Writing Professor

Author and professor Sonya Hubert will deliver the 2023 Cavanaugh Lecture at St. John Fisher University. Sponsored by the English Department, the event is scheduled for 7:30 p.m. on Wednesday, March 22, in the Golisano Gateway Midlevel, and is free and open to the public.

Hubert, an associate professor of creative writing at Fairfield University, works in a mix of genres including creative nonfiction, literary nonfiction, journalism, memoir, and poetry, among others. She is the author of Supremely Tiny Acts: A Memoir of a Day and Pain Woman Takes Your Keys and Other Essays from a Nervous System, a book of essays on chronic pain, which won the Independent Voice Award from the Independent Publishers’ Association and was a Foreword Review Silver Award Winner. Her work has been published in literary journals and magazines including the New York Times, Creative Nonfiction, Brevity, Fourth Genre, Chronicle of Higher Education, and Washington Post Magazine.

As part of her visit, Huber will visit with several classes, including Dr. Jill Swiencicki’s “Gender and Writing” course and Dr. Terence Gipson’s “Seminar on Regional Public Health Issues” course. She will also meet with on-campus creative writing students.
