Basketball Teams to Hold Toy Drive during Crosstown Shootout

December 4, 2018

With the holidays quickly approaching, the St. John Fisher College men’s and women’s basketball teams need your help as the Cardinals, along with teams from Nazareth College, the University of Rochester, and Rochester Institute of Technology, hold a toy drive as part of the third annual Mark’s Pizzeria Crosstown Shootout.

Toy Drive to Benefit Mary's Place during the annual Mark’s Pizzeria Crosstown Shootout.

The drive will directly benefit children at Mary’s Place, a non-profit refugee outreach center in Northwest Rochester.

Fans are asked to bring a new, unwrapped toy to the Crosstown Shootout later this week. Those who donate will also receive free admission to the contests.  Donation tables and bins can be found at both Nazareth and Fisher – both of which are set to host the upcoming tournament.  Nazareth will serve as host for the women’s games beginning at 6 p.m. on Thursday, Dec. 6, and continuing on Saturday, Dec. 8, while Fisher will host the men’s tournament Thursday and Saturday evenings.

On the women’s side, Fisher will take on Rochester at 6 p.m. on Thursday before facing R.I.T. at 6 p.m. on Saturday.  The men’s team will duel nationally-ranked Rochester at 8 p.m. on Thursday and R.I.T. at 8 p.m. on Saturday.

Mary's Place has suggested the following toys for donation:

  • Board games or educational games
  • Sports equipment (soccer balls, basketballs, footballs etc.)
  • Stuffed animals and dolls
  • Legos
  • Bath/body products
  • Hair accessories
