Marketing Week Provides Up Close Look at Profession
Students interested in the marketing field will have their pick of professional development activities, guest speaker events, and networking opportunities, thanks to the St. John Fisher College chapter of the American Marketing Association’s (AMA) Marketing Week.
The events, which run from Monday, Oct. 1 through Friday, Oct. 5, have become a tradition for the club and has earned them past recognition from the collegiate division of AMA.
Fisher’s chapter was honored at the 2018 International Collegiate Conference for Excellence in Marketing Week Activities for its 2017 event, and the members hope to earn similar praise at next year’s awards. For their efforts, they also moved up in AMA’s collegiate chapter rankings this year, earning a spot among the Top 20 International Chapters.

MONDAY, OCT. 1
8 to 9:30 a.m. in the Campus Center Atrium
Guest Speaker: Karl Withers
Position: U of R Medicine - Associate Vice President of Marketing
12:30 to 1:30 p.m. in the Golisano Gateway Midlevel
Withers, associate vice president of marketing at the University of Rochester Medical Center, will speak about his experiences as a marketing professional in the medical field.
Guest Speaker: Scott McGlynn
6:30 to 7:30 p.m. in the Golisano Gateway Midlevel
Fisher graduate McGlynn ’11, marketing and content manager with Coast Professional Inc., will provide insight from the perspective of someone who manages a company’s marketing department on their own. He’ll also share helpful tips on what to expect in marketing and what they don’t teach you in school.
TUESDAY, OCT. 2
Guest Speaker: Bob Maybee
12:30 to 1:30 p.m. in Wilson Formal Lounge
As the vice president of customer loyalty and merchandise support at Wegmans, Bob Maybee will discuss the role of data in marketing.
6:30 to 7:30 p.m. in Golisano Gateway Midlevel
Fisher alumni will speak about their experiences and answer questions to help students understand how they have advanced through their careers. Panelists include Aimee Schenck ’13, Launch Solutions; Alex Ormond ’17, Launch Solutions; Brian Kelly ’16, Crazy Dog T-Shirts; and Rob Meacham ’14, Dixon Schwabl.
WEDNESDAY, OCT. 3
Perfect Pitch Seminar

Hear from past Pitch Perfect competition winners Samantha Servati, Emily Risch, Rebecca Brant, and Ryan Paolini about how to create the winning pitch.
6 to 7:30 p.m. in Golisano Gateway Midlevel
Guest networkers will introduce themselves and give some of their best networking tips. Then, students will spend a few minutes networking with each guest. Guest networkers include Pam Fisher, Wegmans IT project manager; Cody Mangalsingh, Combined Insurance; Katie Christian, Paychex recruiter; and Danielle DeLucas, Aerotek account manager.
THURSDAY, OCT. 4
Perfect Pitch Competition and Networking Luncheon

Sponsored by Aerotek, students will create a :60 to :90 pitch to convince Aerotek to hire them for a sales position.
