Kearney Hall Spire Restoration Honored by Landmark Society
St. John Fisher College was given a 2018 Award of Merit by the Landmark Society of Western New York for its renovation of the Kearney Hall Spire. The College was honored during the organization’s annual awards presentation on Sunday, Nov. 11.
This award is given for a sympathetic rehabilitation of an architecturally significant building, structure, object, or site within the Society’s nine-county region.
In 2016, the College restored and refurbished the spire atop Kearney Hall, replacing its copper cladding, re-glazing windows, and adding a new lighting system, among other upgrades. In addition, the spire’s cross was re-gilded, restoring and cleaning the iconic finial for the first time since it was installed in 1951.
In honoring the College, Wayne Goodman, executive director of the Landmark Society, called the restoration both outstanding and impressive.
Bero Architecture PLCC served as the project architect, working craftsman from project contractor CSTM Corporation.
