Biology Student Shares Research in D.C.
St. John Fisher College student Alex Freedenberg, a senior majoring in biology, attended the 2018 American Society for Biochemistry and Molecular Biology (ASBMB) Hill Day.
Selected as one of 36 among 400 applicants, Freedenberg was the only representative from New York, and was grouped with doctoral students from Yale to engage in science advocacy on Capitol Hill.
While in Washington, Freedenberg was able to discuss the research he conducted under the mentorship of Dr. Jonelle Mattiacio, assistant professor of biology.
According to ASBMB, Hill Day is an opportunity for science trainees to meet with Congressional leaders in an effort to help promote scientific research by directly interacting with policymakers. As a participant, Freedenberg attended sessions on the federal budget process and communicating with members of Congress.
