Friday Night Live improv group won the 2018 Gilda's Cup.
The PRIMA Group, St. John Fisher College’s student-run agency, held the 5th Annual Gilda’s Cup this past Saturday raising more than $2,000 for Gilda’s Club Rochester.
Gilda’s Cup, a collegiate comedy improv competition, raises funds for the cancer support organization named for legendary Saturday Night Live comedian Gilda Radner.
Four teams competed, including Shaun Cassidy Fan Club (SUNY Oswego), In Between the Lines (University of Rochester), UB Improv (University of Buffalo), and Friday Night Live (Buffalo State).
When all the laughs were over, Friday Night Live was crowned winner of the 5th Annual Gilda’s Cup. Tim Ryan and Danielle Erway, members of Geva Theatre, served as emcees for the night while comedy improv experts Megan Mack, BJ Scanlon, and John Forrest Thompson served as judges.
More than 80 members of the Fisher community attended the event, which was held in the Campus Center Mainstage. The College’s a capella group, Drastic Measures, provided additional entertainment during intermission, and attendees enjoyed refreshments, raffles, and a silent auction.
Melinda Merante, CEO of Gilda’s Club Rochester provided opening remarks at the event, and Gilda’s Club showcased its work through displays placed around the Mainstage, which was decorated to reflect the evening’s theme, “Lights. Camera. Improv.”
In the Cup’s five-year history, The PRIMA Group has raised more than $8,000 for Gilda’s Club.
