Countdown to Commencement: Justin Townsend

February 14, 2018

The next featured senior in our Countdown to Commencement video series is Justin Townsend, a biology major and member of the men’s lacrosse team. Townsend was nominated by one of his professors, Dr. Daryl Hurd, associate professor and chair of the Biology Department.

Townsend is an actively involved student at Fisher. Not only has he been on the lacrosse team since his freshman year, but he also has gone on to join and become the president of the Tri-Beta Biological Honor Society. In addition, he serves as a tutor in general biology and general chemistry.

It is no surprise that thanks to his involvement in the Biology Department, his favorite place on campus is Lavery Library. He loves the first floor for spending time with his friends, and will always go up to the quiet floor to get his work done.

Townsend’s positive demeanor and the impact he leaves in and out of the classroom are qualities Hurd said will lead him to do great things after graduation.

“Justin will continue to make the world a better place,” noted Hurd in his nomination.

This summer, Townsend will join the Peace Corps and teach secondary education science classes in Africa.

“I’ve had a lot of fun and it’s just flown by. You’re always so busy around campus you don’t realize how quickly time has gone—it feels like just yesterday it was freshman year,” said Townsend.
