Countdown to Commencement: Owen Williams
The next featured senior in our Countdown to Commencement video series is Owen Williams, a nursing major with a Spanish minor, who was nominated by Service Trip Manager Sally Vaughan.
Williams, who is also a Service Scholar, spends much of his time working for InterVol, a section of Rochester Regional Health, which repurposes medical supplies for third-world countries.
He also serves as a Service Scholar Board member, elected by his peers. In this position, he is a mentor for first-year Service Scholars and helps them with their transition to college. In addition, he is a member of the Service Scholar Application Committee who reviews prospective students and conducts their interviews.
“Owen has shown me what loyalty really means in the way he handles himself in our program and on the e-board. He is a leader in the program, giving a ton of time to ensuring integrity in the program and commitment to the Rochester community,” Vaughan explained.
Outside of the Service Scholar program, Williams works in the Office of Admissions as a tour guide, participates in the Teddi Dance for Love, volunteers for Relay for Life, and participates on the Study Abroad Student Panel.
“The advice I would give to incoming freshmen would be to be open, because there’s so many things that I’ve done at Fisher that had ended up being some of the best experiences of my life,” he said.
