It’s Sweet 16 for Relay for Life

March 22, 2018

This year, Relay for Life at St. John Fisher College turns Sweet 16, and students with Colleges Against Cancer (CAC) are throwing a party. An inspirational 12-hour event to celebrate and honor those who have been affected by cancer, Relay for Life at Fisher is scheduled from noon to midnight on Saturday, April 7, in the Ralph C. Wilson, Jr. Athletic Center.

The family-friendly, high-energy event raises funds for the American Cancer Society, a co-host of the event with CAC. Currently 21 teams and 117 participants have raised approximately $9,448 for the American Cancer Society.

“We are hoping to hit $20,000 this year,” said Yilmaz Ates, president of CAC, noting that the funds raised benefit the Hope Lodge, which offers complimentary accommodations for patients and their caregivers while they are receiving treatment.

With the Sweet 16 birthday theme, attendees can expect a host of food and activities at Relay, including snow cones and a chocolate fountain, psychic readings, and airbrush tattoos, in addition to inflatable games, stuff-a-cardinal, photo booth, and food truck.

“We’re excited to make this Relay the biggest one yet,” said Ates. “Throughout the evening, we’ll have games and prizes for attendees hosted by more than 20 student clubs.”

Registration is $20, and can be completed online by visiting the Relay for Life webpage ( or in person the day of the event.
