OIT Sponsors Hackathon for a Good Cause
This April, members of OIT are teaming up with WordPress Rochester, a professional network for people who use the website content management system, to host a 12-hour Hackathon.
The event will pair website designers and coders with several area nonprofits to help them design and build new websites using WordPress.
Maryann Reissig, senior programmer and analyst with OIT, is leading the charge on the Fisher side, recruiting volunteers to participate in the Hackathon. She said anyone interested in WordPress, regardless of experience level, is welcome to join the Hackathon.
“This is great way to give back to the community and spark interest in web coding and design,” said Reissig. “If you’re new to web work, you’ll learn a lot, and if you have experience, you’ll be able to help a lot during the day.”
The best part of the event? Up to five area nonprofits will walk away with fully-functioning websites. Reissig said the group is still recruiting organizations to participate as well.
The event will run from 8:30 a.m. to 8 p.m. on Saturday, April 21, in Golisano Gateway Midlevel. It’s $10 for volunteers to participate. Food will be provided throughout the day. To volunteer or apply as a nonprofit, visit https://wprochester.com/rochester-hackathon/.
