Basketball Standout Tyler English Surpasses 1,000 Career Points

Tyler English became the 23rd player in St. John Fisher College men’s basketball history to surpass 1,000 career points on Tuesday, Jan. 23, as the Cardinals posted an 88-52 victory over Houghton College.

With the win, Fisher improved to 9-8 overall and evened its conference mark at 4-4.

English, who made history with a free throw at the 2:08 mark of the first half, joined a select club after finishing with 10 points on 4-of-7 shooting from the floor. The Lockport, New York, native also contributed five assists and four rebounds in the win.

A senior majoring in economics with a minor in sport management, English has built an impressive career with the Cardinals. In his junior year, he started all 29 games for Fisher, leading the team in assists (63) and steals (25). He was also named to the Empire 8 All-Conference Second Team, as well as the Empire 8 Conference Tournament’s Most Outstanding Player.

The Cardinals will look to start a new winning streak at 6 p.m. on Friday as they host The Sage Colleges in what will mark the two programs’ first-ever meeting as Empire 8 opponents.
