Student-Athletes Take Part in Eighth Annual Giant Read

April 16, 2019

More than 40 student-athletes from St. John Fisher College spent the morning of Friday, April 12, taking part in the annual Giant Read at Joseph C. Wilson Foundation Academy in what has become one of the athletic department's favorite annual community service events.

The “Giant Read” brings students from a variety of Fisher teams to a selected Rochester city school to read to children from grades kindergarten to second grade. The annual event is part of READ: Hope in Action Program, designed to promote literacy in the Rochester City School District.

The student-athletes spent nearly an hour with the children in an interactive environment, reading, making crafts, and taking part in various physical activities throughout the morning.

Organized by Fisher's Student-Athlete Advisory Committee (SAAC), the “Giant Read” is a project that the College has been involved with for eight years and is part of a larger effort among colleges and universities in the Rochester area.
