Meeting Explores Next Gen Leadership Program

January 18, 2019

Are you a Next Generation (Next Gen) interested in accelerating your development as a leader in your family business? Are you the parent of that Next Gen? If so, we invite you both to join us from 8 to 10 a.m. on Wednesday, March 6, in the Skalny Welcome Center Board Room for a planning discussion about the Next Gen Leadership Program, hosted by School of Business faculty and executives-in-residence.

It’s well known that family businesses can benefit from developing the Next Gen to successfully assume leadership positions within the company and it’s our aim to bring together current and future leadership generations who are actively involved in the business to participate in the conversation.

The Next Gen Leadership Program is open for those currently working in their family business who aspire to be high performing leaders. It will consist of a year-long monthly series of confidential peer groups with programming focused on managing oneself, managing relationships with others, and family business governance. Participants will create a plan to identify and address the transitions they are facing personally, in the family, and in the business. The program is fee-based and does not include sponsors or advisors; there are a limited number of seats, 12-15, for qualified participants.

The meeting will include break-out focus groups moderated by Fisher faculty and staff for participants to give feedback on the proposed content and format. Participant feedback will inform final program content and delivery. Peer groups will include 12-15 leaders (who are not relatives), who are non-competitors, and are in their 20s to late 30s.

Contact Dr. Carol Wittmeyer (cwittmeyer@sjfc.edu) or Professor Derek Vanderlinde (dvanderlinde@sjfc.edu) or call (585) 385-5246 if you are interested in attending the March 6 session. Please note, this session is only open to family business current or future leaders.
