Internships Give Students Competitive Edge

June 11, 2018

A hallmark of the sport management program continues to be the engaging internship and practicum experiences students have throughout the academic year.

Sarah Gensler worked with the Rochester Knighthawks during the spring semester.

In spring and summer 2018, 48 students gained real-world insight into the sport industry at dozens of organizations in Rochester, Boston, Pittsburgh, and beyond.

Pat Gordon, director of experiential learning and outreach, said that the success of the internship and practicum program is due in large part to the close relationships the department has with industry professionals across the country.

“Our partners continue to play a vital role in shaping the next generation of sport industry professionals and we rely on them to provide guidance and specialized training to our students,” said Gordon.  “During the 2017-18 academic year, we had 135 unique industry touch points that aided learning in the classroom and in the field.  We look forward to strengthening those relationships and continuing to build new ones next year.”

Any organizations wishing to partner with the department can email Gordon at pgordon@sjfc.edu or call (585) 385-7376.
