New Fund Sends Students into Sports World

June 21, 2018

This summer, Fisher students Derek Raux ’19 and Garrett Steiger ’18 will gain experience in the sport industry, thanks in part to the newly launched Student Experiential Learning Fund.

Garrett Steiger is an intern at New Hampshire Motor Speedway.

Created through the generous support of program alumni, faculty, and industry partners, the Sport Management Department established the Student Experiential Learning Fund in 2018 to provide select students with financial support for travel, lodging, or incidental expenses incurred during developmental opportunities.

“With the new fund, students can engage in study abroad programs, attend professional conferences, or participate in other activities that enhance their professional profiles,” said Dr. Todd Harrison, associate professor and chair of the department.

Derek Raux is an intern with the WNBA’s Chicago Sky.

As the inaugural recipients of the fund, Raux and Steiger will travel beyond New York’s borders to spend the summer with professional sports organizations. Raux will work for the WNBA’s Chicago Sky while Steiger will serve as an intern at New Hampshire Motor Speedway.
