04/01/2020 - You could say that Donavan Ruther ’20 has always envisioned himself at St. John Fisher College. Both his aunt and his brother are Fisher graduates; so when he finished his associate’s degree at Monroe Community College, it was easy to see himself on campus.

Cunningham, visiting assistant professor of English and director of Women and Gender Studies, in Dallas, Texas, at the 28th annual National Association of African American Studies National Conference in late February.

The philosophy and religious studies major is the first to be nominated by three members of the Fisher faculty and staff: Dr. Tim Madigan, professor and chair of philosophy and classical studies; Fr. William Graf, associate professor and chair of religious studies; and Matt Berry, assistant director of freshman admissions.

The project consists of a series of flag-inspired panels representing inclusion, patriotism, and compassion in the context of the many intersectional communities at Fisher. This creative undertaking is just one result of ongoing interdepartmental diversity and inclusion work at the College.

02/10/2020 - Dr. Wendi Sierra, assistant professor in the English and interactive media programs at St. John Fisher College, says that preserving an indigenous language is a formidable task. She says many native languages have a “missing generation”—parents or even grandparents who know little or nothing of the language, making it hard to revitalize its daily or home use.

02/06/2020 - Jeremy Sarachan, chair of the St. John Fisher College Department of Media and Communication, recently won the Audience Favorite Award for his film, “Active Voices,” during the Shmoovies Film Festival, held at The Cinema in Rochester, New York in January.
