COVID-19 Vaccine Requirement
The COVID-19 vaccination series is a mandatory immunization for the 2022-2023 academic year for all students and employees, as well as temporary workers and independent contractors.
COVID-19 Vaccine Requirements
All members of the campus community on campus for the 2022-2023 academic year must be fully vaccinated against COVID-19. Individuals are considered fully vaccinated when at least 14 days have passed since the second dose of a two-dose vaccine or after the one-dose vaccine.
Per both New York state and CDC guidance, Fisher will accept vaccines that have been approved for emergency use by the CDC (Pfizer, Moderna, Jansen) as well as vaccines listed on the World Health Organization emergency use list [pdf] that have reached a “finalized” status of assessment.
Per guidance from the CDC, individuals who have had COVID-19 should still obtain the vaccine and will be required to do so unless they have a medical or religious exemption.
Exception for Online Program Students
Fisher considers clinical rotations, student teaching placements, and fieldwork sites to be an extension of our campus. Online students with clinical requirements, fieldwork, or on-campus immersions do need to provide proof of full vaccination.
Online students who will not be on campus (e.g., no residency requirement, no immersion experience, no fieldwork, no campus-based courses/jobs/services, no on-campus jobs, athletics or extracurricular opportunities) nor in a clinical rotation do not need to provide proof of vaccination but may be asked for verification of their status as an online only student.
In order to be considered fully vaccinated, individuals would have had to obtain a complete immunization (one-shot dose or second shot of two-shot dose). Proof of vaccination must be provided to Fisher. Acceptable proof includes a written certification of vaccination, such as a CDC vaccination card or medical documentation showing the date and type of vaccine administered. Do not include any medical or genetic information with your proof of vaccination.
- Employees must submit vaccination documentation to Human Resources (firstname.lastname@example.org).
- Students must submit vaccination documentation to the Patient Portal.
Exemption requests for the Fall 2022 semester should be submitted by August 1, 2022.
Unvaccinated students and employees who receive a medical or religious exemption will be permitted on campus, but will be required to follow Fisher's policies for unvaccinated individuals. Because this is a requirement, refusal to obtain the vaccine or booster for reasons beyond medical or religious exemptions will be considered a voluntary withdrawal or voluntary resignation.
Fisher makes determinations about requested exemptions on a case-by-case basis and will communicate a final decision in writing to the student’s Fisher email account.
Fisher provides exemptions to students with sincerely held religious beliefs that prohibit them from receiving all required vaccinations. Requests will require completion of the Request for Religious Exemption from Vaccination Form. Nursing and Pharmacy majors should consult with their individual Schools to discuss religious exemptions and New York State Law for healthcare professionals prior to requesting an exemption.
Please note that philosophical, political, scientific, or sociological objections to immunizations will not justify an exemption from this policy.
Exemptions for medical reasons may be available on a case-by-case basis [e.g., severe or immediate allergic reaction (e.g., anaphylaxis) after a previous dose or known (diagnosed) allergy to a component of the vaccine]. Such requests will require the completion of the Request for Medical Exemption from Vaccination Form and the submission of appropriate supporting documentation.
Completed forms must be submitted electronically.
Upon review, you will be notified in writing at your Fisher email address if the exemption has been granted or denied. At any time, Fisher reserves the right to request additional supporting documentation. If approved, the exemption will remain in effect for the duration of the current academic year. Requests must be renewed annually.
Policies for Students and Employees Who are Not Fully Vaccinated against COVID-19
These policies are for students and employees who have either received an exemption to the requirement or who are in progress with their vaccinations. Fisher's COVID-19 policies are subject to change as local and federal guidelines change and county indicators fluctuate. For your own health and safety and for the health and safety of our community, please be advised that until further notice, you are required to adhere to all policies for unvaccinated individuals on campus, including:
- Wearing a face covering while indoors, including in residence halls and classrooms, and outdoors whenever at least six feet of physical distance cannot be maintained;
- Weekly COVID test results from a home test or a test administered by a medical provider off-campus must be uploaded to Fisher's Health and Wellness Center Patient Portal; and
- Potential mandatory isolation, quarantine, or exclusion from campus for up to 14 days from the most recent diagnosed case should cases of COVID-19 be detected on campus.
Violation of these policies are considered violations of the Student Code of Conduct and will be referred to the Office of Student Conduct.
