B.S., Houghton College
I am an applied statistician by training and professor of statistics in the Department of Mathematical and Computing Sciences. I also direct the statistics program, which offers the B.A. in statistics and a data science minor. I am an accredited Professional Statistician (PStat) through the American Statistical Association. I enjoy the process of consulting with student researchers and helping them to solve their research-specific statistical problems. I assist them with questions on measurement, data analysis and interpretation, statistical software, and more.
My training was in the behavioral sciences and emphasized quantitative methods. Some of my long-standing interests include meta-analysis, robust and nonparametric statistical methods, and using R for data analysis. I teach a range of courses, including STAT 160 - Introduction to Data Science, STAT 345 - Exploratory Data Analysis, and STAT 222 -Nonparametric Statistics. My research activity takes two forms: my own statistical research and collaborating with other researchers as the "stats guy." The statistical questions I'm presently engaged with involve nonparametric effect size statistics, and contamination in cluster randomized trials. I also collaborate with researchers from nursing and education on their projects.
