Dialogue in the Humanities: The Erie Canal

Dialogue in the Humanities is a campus-wide series held three times per semester at St. John Fisher, inviting students, faculty, and staff into open, thoughtful conversation.

Date: Friday, November 21, 2025
Time: 2:30 p.m. - 3:30 p.m.
Location: Hughes Rotunda, Ralph C. Wilson, Jr. School of Education

Each session is facilitated by a member of the Fisher community who selects a topic and designs a format that encourages genuine dialogue. Together, those in attendance explore ideas central to being human and living well in today’s world. The Dialogues offer space to hear diverse perspectives, reflect deeply, and engage with others in meaningful ways on a variety of topics. All are welcome!

The November dialogue will be moderated by Dr. Tim Madigan, professor of philosophy, and will focus on the 200th anniversary of the Erie Canal.

Facilitators:

Wesley Fecco, "The Politics and History of Financing the Erie Canal"

Kuyler Coffin, "The Erie Canal and the Second Great Awakening"
