Sociology Internships and Activites

As a sociology major, you are encouraged to complete at least one internship during your junior or senior year. These placements not only provide you with an example of how to apply sociological concepts to concrete situations and organizations, they also give you an opportunity to explore and focus on career interests.

Moreover, it is important to recognize that internships are increasingly being used by employers as a method of screening and selecting potential full-time employees. You should view this as a transition from an educational setting to a possible professional career.

Should you undertake an internship, you will need to complete 135 hours at your placement. Additionally, you must attend scheduled meetings with your internship coordinator and make weekly entries in an internship log, thereby documenting your experience.
