Dr. Zak received his Pharm.D. from the University of Buffalo in 2006. He then moved to Rochester to work at the University of Rochester Medical Center as a clinical staff pharmacist. He has been certified in Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support since 2007. He earned his Board Certification as a Pharmacotherapy Specialist in 2009. In 2011, he was certified by NYSCHP as a provider of Antimicrobial Stewardship. In 2012, he received formal training on the CareFusion (Alaris) CQI Database and Reporting System.

During his 8 year tenure with the URMC, Matt was involved in a variety of pharmacy services. He rounded with teams in internal medicine and critical care, as well as staffed in the emergency department. He precepted numerous IPPE and APPE students from a variety of schools. Matt was also a primary preceptor for the department’s PGY-1 Internal Medicine residency program. He attended over 150 codes and was involved in the nursing education of medication use during ACLS situations. Matt also coordinated the pharmacy intern program within the department from 2010 – 2014 giving advanced pharmacy students a challenging, yet educational experience.

Matt has served as the membership chair of the Rochester Area Society of Health-systems Pharmacists (RASHP) since 2010. Having an interest in geriatric medicine, Matt also sat on the Nurses Improving the Care of Health-system Elders (NICHE) Committee at the URMC to help reduce the use of Potentially Inappropriate Medications (PIMS) in the admitted elderly population. Matt also served on the Wegmans School of Pharmacy Assessment Committee in 2012 and the Admissions Committee in 2013.

Matt joined the faculty at the Wegmans School of Pharmacy in 2014 to take his love of mentoring, precepting, and educating students to another level. His other professional interests include critical care, infectious disease, geriatrics, and emergency medicine. Personally, Matt is an avid fan of the Buffalo Sabres and Buffalo Bills. He also enjoys golfing, skiing, traveling, photography, and playing his guitar.
