Narrative:

Gregory Geer, Ph.D., is a visiting assistant professor in St. John Fisher’s Ed.D. in Executive Leadership Program. A lifelong educator, he began his teaching journey as a middle and high school social studies teacher in Mexico, New York, and Churchville-Chili High School. Beyond the classroom he participated in school life as a varsity wrestling, football, track coach, refereed lacrosse, had roles in student musicals and student government.

Transitioning to an administrative career, he was a dean of students and assistant principal at Churchville-Chili High School. In addition, he served as a house principal at Cortland Enlarged City School District where he also supervised the school media centers and instructional technology at what at the time was the advent of the wider use of the internet. As principal at Eastridge Junior High School in Irondequoit, New York, he led efforts resulting in significant gains in student achievement and led the design and programming team resulting in the construction of East Irondequoit Middle School.

His PK-12 career culminated as the superintendent of the Byron-Bergen Central School District. There he led initiatives to improve student achievement, facilities, and district culture while expanding opportunities for its students. These experiences inform his work in higher education. He was the inaugural faculty member for implementing a master’s degree program in educational leadership at Coastal Carolina University in South Carolina. Geer also designed and implemented an asynchronous online Certificate in Advanced Studies program leading to administrator certification for school building and district leaders at SUNY Fredonia.
