FAQs for Accepted First-Year Students

After submitting the FAFSA form, the applicant receives a FAFSA Submission Summary, which is a summary of the data provided on the FAFSA form. The applicant reviews the FAFSA Submission Summary for accuracy and if necessary, makes corrections or updates to the submitted FAFSA data.

The Universal Candidate Reply Date is May 1, but given the impacts of the FAFSA delay, *we will welcome deposits through May 15 to allow students and their families the time needed to make the most informed decision. Please pay your enrollment deposit no later than May 15 to secure your place in the fall class.

Once we receive your enrollment deposit, you will receive information regarding the First-Year Enrollment Guide in the mail, as early as March 1. This guide will provide information on academic advisement, orientation, registration, housing, and more.

For your first semester at Fisher, advisors from the Center for Career and Academic Planning will complete the course registration process for you. They will utilize your completed Enrollment Profile (a very important piece of your First-Year Enrollment Guide), your intended major, the required courses, and any transfer credits you will bring into Fisher to create your first semester schedule.

Once you are enrolled at Fisher, you will spend time during your First-Year Seminar course learning about the registration process and setting up your course plan for future semesters.

The Great Beginnings Summer Orientation Program offers you the opportunity to meet with current students, faculty, staff, and first-year advisors. You'll attend sessions that will familiarize you with academics at Fisher, the first-year program, and other aspects of campus life (clubs/activities, living on campus, athletics, scholar programs, etc.). There are plenty of opportunities to have questions answered and to meet with other new students.

Your Learning Community consists of two courses linked by a common theme and will emphasize writing, discussion, research, and group work skills.

First-Year Seminar is a one-credit course, taken in the fall semester, that serves as an orientation to college life and a support system as you transition from high school. In addition, you'll be housed in your residence hall with other students in your same First-Year Seminar, so you'll be sure to make many friends right from the start.

Topics covered include wellness; participation and leadership in student clubs; engagement with community and diversity; goal setting, study skills, time management and stress management; and the ins-and-outs of life at Fisher.

There is always something to do at Fisher. You may choose from a wide range of campus clubs and organizations, including student government, music groups, language clubs, cultural organizations, student publications, and intramural sports. Many academic departments also sponsor clubs.

The food is great! In fact, Fisher was ranked No. 5 in America and No. 1 in New York state by Niche.com in their 2023 Best College Food in America list.

The main dining hall offers a wide variety of interactive dining platforms including the wokery, salad and fresh fruit bar, deli counter, grill, pasta bar, brick oven pizza, vegetarian section, and more. Several other retail outlets across campus offer coffee, smoothies, Grab & Go items, and more to suit your busy schedule.

Fisher is a very safe campus. The Office of Safety and Security is responsible for campus safety and operates on a 24-hour-a-day, seven-day-a-week schedule. Security officers conduct regular foot and auto patrols of all campus buildings, grounds, and parking areas.

Access to the residence halls is controlled by the card access system. Residence halls are patrolled and monitored by security officers or resident assistants. All other campus facilities are locked and unlocked daily according to established schedules.

The Office of Safety and Security offers a campus escort service for on-campus use by all students, faculty, staff, and visitors. The service operates 24 hours a day, seven days a week.

No. However, 90% of first-year students do live on campus and are housed in three residence halls on campus: Ward, Haffey, or Murphy.

First-year residential student parking will be available on a limited basis with approval.

National surveys state that most students enroll at a college within 1-3 hours from home, and Fisher students follow the national trend. Ninety percent of Fisher students are from New York state. Other states represented are Pennsylvania, New Jersey, Connecticut, Ohio, Florida, California, Arizona, and Puerto Rico.

There are nearly 2,600 undergraduate students at Fisher; 60% are female and 40% are male.
