Career Services at Fisher

Career planning starts as soon as you enter Fisher, even if you haven't decided on a major or chosen a profession. Your future starts now, and we’re ready to help.

We offer many ways to explore your options, build your network, and test-drive possible jobs. The Career Experts at the Center for Career and Academic Planning (CCAP) will help you to identify your interests, align your academics to career goals, and build your experiences toward your success (however you define it).

Work-Study Jobs on Campus

In mid-to-late August, you will receive an email with instructions on how to access Handshake, our career management system for students and alumni. Handshake is easy to navigate and provides job postings for on/off campus, full-time, part-time, work-study, internships, and volunteering. The email will provide tips for searching for work-study positions in Handshake. Please note that there are more students seeking work-study jobs than there are openings, so be vigilant.

CCAP Services

From your first year into alumni status, CCAP is your partner for making good plans toward success. During the campus library renovations, our offices will be in Kearney K-059. You may contact us via email at ccap@sjf.edu. Here's how we can help:

Career Coaching

We offer in-depth career assessments that provide insight into how your skills, interests, and values match up with a variety of career fields and potential occupations. We'll also meet with you for individual coaching sessions for help with resumes, internships, job search, interview practice, graduate school applications, and more.

Professional Documentation

Career experts will work with you to develop and personalize your résumé, cover letters, professional profiles, and personal statements to ensure they reflect your best qualifications.

Internships and Pre-Career Experiences

Internships, site visits, job shadowing, mentoring with alumni and professionals, and additional events provide essential practical work experience, build competencies, and allow you "test drive" career options. They can be for academic credit (work with your faculty) or not (work with Career Services). Opportunities are posted in Handshake.

Online Resources

Career exploration: We offer several self-guided tools (but of course we want to talk with you as you discover your options), including Focus 2 Career. You can also take several career exploration assessments with a CCAP advisor to help refine your ideas. Other resources include tools to explore What Can I do With This Major (login required), sample resume booklets, interviewing guides, and assistance for graduate school applications.

Job/Internship postings: Handshake, Parker-Dewey, plus a catalog of preferred job boards organized by academic majors, are your tools for online searching.

Networking: Cardinal Connections is specifically for Fisher students to connect with alumni for career exploration conversations. Fisher Alumni Group and Fisher Young Professionals (FYP) let you connect with thousands of alumni.

Events

CCAP brings you several career-focused events every year such as workshops, employer site visits, and job fairs in the fall and spring semesters. We also host employer information sessions throughout the year, a variety of short tutorial help sessions, and a podcast to give you the basics for building a great career.
