Upgrades Turn Fisher’s Cyber Café into Grab-and-Go Hub

September 21, 2020

A popular dining spot for St. John Fisher College students and employees, Cyber Café, received several upgrades this summer, thanks to a $100,000 grant from the Fred L. Emerson Foundation.

Students stand in line to order food at the newly renovated Cyber Cafe.

Run by Fisher Dining Services, Cyber Café has become a high traffic dining option for the campus community during the morning and lunch hours, offering a suite of Starbucks coffees, lattes, and cappuccinos and food selections including sandwiches, Tuscan flats, salads, and snacks.

While upgrades to Cyber Café had been under development, during COVID-19 renovations became a priority as plans for reopening campus included reimagining food service spaces to maximize health and safety.

The renovations allowed Fisher Dining to stock more prepackaged and snack items in response to increased demand for grab-and-go items students and staff can take back to their dorms or offices. A third cashier station was added to help keep lines moving at peak times. In recognition that most students now carry their own devices, the namesake computer stations were removed to create a more “touch-less environment” and make way for more flexible, socially-distant seating.

The Café’s made-to-order area was rearranged so that pick-up for food and beverages are now in one location, and an additional espresso machine was added to the barista station. With the renovations came an expansion of menu items, including “Dine on the Go Dinner Entrees.”

To accommodate a more socially distant experience, the traditional late night dining option relocated to Cyber Café, which is now open until 11 p.m. Monday through Thursday (orders will be taken until 10:45 p.m.). Pizzas and buffalo chicken melts are included in the late night menu.

Known for its student-focused philosophy, Fisher Dining Services has enjoyed increased recognition for tailoring programs, services, and venues to meet the needs of the entire Fisher community. For the second year in a row, Fisher Dining earned the No. 1 spot for “Best College Food” (and the No. 6 spot in the country) on Niche.com’s annual rankings.
