Fisher Football Wins Courage Bowl XX
In a milestone year for the Courage Bowl, the Teddi Trophy fittingly ended up where it started back in 2005.
The St. John Fisher University football team added another wild chapter in its history in one of the premier games in Division III, outlasting SUNY Brockport 31-24 in overtime on Saturday afternoon at Growney Stadium. The victory was an exciting way for Fisher to celebrate the 20th anniversary of the Courage Bowl, which raises money to support Camp Good Days and Special Times.
During the game, children from Camp Good Days served as honorary coaches and cheerleaders. The students attended practices and participated on the sidelines, creating a unique athletic experience.
Ryan McNamara and Craig Winter both returned as honorary coaches for Fisher, and cheerleading for the Cardinals were Maylee Cross and Charlotte “Charli” Ferraraccio.
Vinny Miller and Anders Swanson, both long-time camp participants, helped lead Brockport’s team. Their honorary cheerleaders, JoNiya Johnson and Jazzy Antinetto, are first-year campers who brought energy and spirit to the Golden Eagles’ sidelines.
At halftime of the game, Camp Good Days honored longtime volunteer Greg Cutt with the annual Father Joe Lanzalaco Courage Award, which is given to an individual who is an example of courage, strength, and determination to all of the children and families served by Camp Good Days.
“Greg embodies the spirit of selflessness, hope, and determination that the Courage Bowl stands for, and his impact on our campers is immeasurable,” said Gary Mervis, founder and chairman of Camp. “We are honored to recognize his unwavering commitment to our mission.”
With the win, Fisher improved to 13-7 in Courage Bowl games, and is 4-1 for the 2025 season. Up next, the Cardinals face Hartwick at 3:30 p.m. next Saturday, Oct. 11, in Oneonta.
