Four Events Celebrate Hispanic Heritage Month at Fisher
St. John Fisher University will celebrate Hispanic Heritage Month with a series of events that explore culture, cuisine, and crafts.
Running from Thursday, Sept. 18 through Thursday, Oct. 30, the events will feature arts and crafts activities, cooking demonstrations, and live music and performances. The month-long celebration is being organized by the Languages and Cultures program.

Hispanic Craft Workshop
1:40 p.m., Thursday, Sept. 18, Golisano Gateway Midlevel
This hands-on workshop invites participants to explore traditional Hispanic crafts in a relaxed, creative setting. Whether weaving, painting, or assembling folk art, the activity fosters cultural appreciation through tactile engagement. Designed to be accessible and fun, organizers hope to encourage students to express themselves while learning about the artistic traditions that shape Hispanic communities.
Hispanic Food Workshop
1:40 p.m., Thursday, Sept. 25, Elaine Wilson Formal Lounge
During this interactive culinary event, students will get a taste of Hispanic heritage through cooking demos, storytelling, and shared meals. The workshop emphasizes the role of food in family, identity, and celebration, offering a way to connect across cultures.
Fiesta Hispana
1 to 3 p.m., Thursday, Oct. 2, Golisano Gateway Midlevel
This event brings together students, faculty, staff, and community members to celebrate the richness of Hispanic cultures. There will be interactive cultural activities and festive refreshments in a joyful and welcoming atmosphere. The highlight is a dynamic performance by Grupo Cultural from Teaching Artists ROC, offering an immersive experience in traditional dance and music. It’s a chance to connect, learn, and revel in the beauty of shared heritage.
Día de los Muertos: Altar Inauguration
12:30 to 4:30 p.m., Thursday, Oct. 30, Golisano Gateway Midlevel
This reflective event honors the traditions of Día de los Muertos with a community-built altar that invites remembrance and celebration. Students, faculty, and staff are encouraged to contribute photos, notes, or symbolic items, creating a collective space of memory and meaning. The altar will be open throughout the afternoon for quiet reflection, cultural learning, and conversation around themes of life, death, and legacy.
