Learn the Ins and Outs of Estate Planning at November First Friday

St. John Fisher University alumnus Edward Wurtz, Esq. ’72 will demystify the estate planning process during the November First Friday Lecture.

The talk, Estate Planning: What is it, Who needs it, and Why is it important – A Practical Approach, begins at 10:30 a.m. on Friday, Nov. 7, in the James 71 and Kathleen Leo Community Room in the Joseph S. Skalny Welcome Center.

At the lecture, attendees will gain a clear understanding of the essential components of estate planning and provide practical insights into how estate planning protects loved ones, preserves assets, and ensures personal wishes are honored. Whether someone is beginning to consider their future or seeking to update an existing plan, this event provides valuable guidance for individuals and families at every stage of life.

Wurtz earned his bachelor’s degree from Fisher in 1972 and earned his juris doctorate from the Albany Law School in 1975. Upon graduation from law school, he returned to Rochester and established his law practice.

In 2000, after 24 years of running his own office, Wurtz merged his practice with Gallo & Iacovangelo, LLP. Since joining the firm, Ed has handled numerous complex estate litigation matters for both private clients as well as the Public Administrator. He has brought to the firm considerable experience in both criminal and civil litigation, family law, real property law, estate and commercial litigation.

In addition to practicing law, he has acted as a part-time Monroe County Assistant District Attorney for 11 years and served as an adjunct faculty member at Fisher for close to 40 years.

A continental breakfast will be served at 10 a.m., and following the lecture, attendees are invited to attend 12:30 p.m. Mass at the Hermance Family Chapel of St. Basil the Great.
