Summer Stories: Business Student Explores International Finance Through KMPG Internship

September 19, 2025

When Jason Weng ’26 graduates in May, he’ll walk the stage and into a full-time position with KMPG, a global audit, tax, and advisory firm where he will serve as an international tax associate at the company’s Philadelphia office. His concrete plans are all thanks to an internship he engaged in over the summer.

An accounting and corporate finance major from Tully, New York, Weng pursued an internship with KPMG because of its strong reputation in the industry and its commitment to creating an inclusive and supportive work culture.

“I wanted to learn and grow alongside a company that offers strong mentorship and professional development opportunities,” he said. “I was also specifically interested in gaining experience in a different environment, which is why I was excited to intern in Philadelphia.”

Weng said that his accounting and finance coursework at Fisher prepared him well for the internship.

“The technical skills from those classes were essential, but I also learned about professionalism and communication. The case studies and projects we worked on in class were especially helpful as they mirrored the experience of collaborating on a team and solving real-world business problems,” he explained.

He also credits his experiences as a resident assistant, captain of the track team, and president of the Asian Student Union for building leadership skills.

When it was time to look for internship opportunities, Weng said the career services team at Fisher was instrumental in the process.

“The career fairs, experiential learning opportunities, and résumé reviews all helped me build connections and secure my internship,” he said.

The internship program kicked off with a weeklong training at the KPMG Lakehouse in Florida. As a member of the International Tax Team, he worked on client projects, including research and data analysis. Weng said the experience gave him valuable exposure to cross-border transactions. He also had the opportunity to work with mentors and network with colleagues and fellow interns.

When he returns to KPMG in fall 2026, he’ll be ready to dig into the work, helping multinational companies navigate their cross-border transactions.

“This will involve assisting companies in navigating complex tax rules, optimizing their global tax strategies, conducting research, and supporting mergers and acquisitions,” he said. “Fisher has been a crucial part of my journey and has helped me achieve my post-graduation goals.”

Throughout the summer months, Fisher students stayed busy conducting research, traveling abroad, engaging in internships, and more. Over the next few weeks, check out the Summer Stories series and learn more about how members of the Fisher community spent their summer.
