O-Team’s Guide to Orientation and Beyond
The first few weeks on campus are filled with words of wisdom from parents, professors, and staff members. But, some of the best advice comes from current students who remember well the hectic, nerve-wracking, and exciting experience of being a first-year student.
Claire Holler ’26 and Cody Luckey ’26, two members of the Orientation Team, offer their thoughts on making the most of your first year at Fisher.
Originally from Binghamton, New York, Holler described her first year at Fisher as exciting, fresh, and social, adding that it was a period full of change.
She encourages first-year students to go to as many Welcome Weekend events and activities as possible.
A nursing major, Holler is a member of The Body Talk, Psychology Club, Student Nurses Association, and Teddi Dance for Love.
“Reach out and talk to people, introduce yourself, and take advantage of all the new faces,” she said, adding the Involvement Fest, taking place on Thursday, Sept. 11, is an absolute “must-do” event.
Luckey, who is also from Binghamton, is majoring in finance with a minor in economics. In addition to volunteering as an Orientation Leader, he is a member of the Teddi Dance for Love, a club he encourages students to join.
With events happening all semester, including the Courage Bowl, Family Weekend, and Late Night Breakfast, among dozens of other activities, there are plenty of opportunities to explore.
Luckey’s advice for new students? Have an open mind.
“Be open to new people and experiences, try new things, and give everything your best,” he said.
