Countdown to Commencement 2020: C.J. Wild

Meet C.J. Wild, this week’s featured senior in the Countdown to Commencement series. The philosophy and religious studies major is the first to be nominated by three members of the Fisher faculty and staff: Dr. Tim Madigan, professor and chair of philosophy and classical studies; Fr. William Graf, associate professor and chair of religious studies; and Matt Berry, assistant director of freshman admissions.

Wild wasted no time getting involved in his first year at Fisher. The Service Scholar has been volunteering at the Ronald McDonald House since he arrived, and has been a consistent face seen at numerous service events and activities at the College. Most recently, he served as an emcee at the Teddi Dance for Love – his second year in a row in that role.

He has given dozens upon dozens – perhaps hundreds – of campus tours to prospective students and their families as an ambassador. In addition, he has been involved in the College’s Orientation program, serving as a peer mentor, working closely with first-year students.

“C.J. has done just about everything in admissions. He has planned Open Houses, developed new ambassador trainings, given speeches, served on panels, traveled with us to accepted student events and mingled, run the front desk, answered phones, given tours. He goes above and beyond in everything,” said Berry. “He is the most mature and genuine student I have ever worked with.”

Wild has also served as a peer minister, and is very involved with the Office of Campus Ministry. Madigan and Graf call him a “moral exemplar and a true student leader.”

“His enthusiasm for learning, and especially his commitment to philosophy and religious studies, is inspiring to all of his teachers. He often meets with us after class to continue to discuss issues raised in the classroom,” they wrote in their nomination.

All three of Wild’s nominators said what they will remember most about him is his genuine nature, personal integrity, and commitment to others.
