The Mammano Scholarship is a memorial to a Karyl Mammano, who worked as a professor of accounting and director of nonprofit management for the Center for Community Engagement for more than 10 years. The scholarship is given to an undergraduate business student who is actively involved in community service.

Gara is very active in the School of Business, serving on the Dean’s Student Advisory Council. She is also a student ambassador and a First Generation Scholar. As a First Generation Scholar, Gara is one of only six students with a class assistant role, serving as a mentor to freshman students in the program. Gara has also embraced her interest in finance, serving on the finance committees for both the Teddi Dance for Love and the Student Government Association.

In the community, she is just as active in the community, tutoring students in the Rochester City School District, an experience she has found incredibly rewarding.

“Alyssa is an excellent student, earnest in her desire to learn and improve herself,” said Dr. Rick Dejesus-Rueff, academic director of the First Generation Scholars Program. She has not taken her opportunities at Fisher for granted and has made sure to leave a positive impact on the school, Dejesus-Rueff added.
