March 27, 2020

Seniors Oskarys Fermin and Luisa Rodriguez and sophomore Tamaron McKnight co-presented a paper with Dr. Lisa J. Cunningham, visiting assistant professor of English and director of Women and Gender Studies, in Dallas, Texas, at the 28th annual National Association of African American Studies National Conference in late February.

Their paper, “Building Visible Intersections: Queer & Racial Inclusion at Predominately White Colleges,” centered on the current creation of an LGBTQ+ resource website being built from Cunningham’s Trans Identities and Activism Courses that is providing a space to center the experiences of queer and gender-expansive students from an intersectional perspective.

In creating the website, students are partnering with offices across the College to build a more actively inclusive campus climate for current and potential students, faculty, and staff.
