Countdown to Commencement 2021: Matthew Jeffries

February 22, 2021

Accounting and finance double major Matt Jeffries is the next member of the Class of 2021 to be featured in the “Countdown to Commencement” series. Jeffries was nominated by Hugh Lambert, assistant professor of accounting in the School of Business.

The Buffalo, New York native is a member of the men’s lacrosse team, accounting tutor and learning assistant, and three-time Teddi Dance for Love Captain. In addition, he is a member of Delta Sigma Pi, an international business fraternity, and serves as president of Investment Club.

Lambert shared how Jeffries has made an impact on campus through all of his activities, giving back to the undergraduate students through tutoring and to the community through his involvement on the Teddi Committee.

“He has become a great resource for undergraduate students in my Accounting 101 class--a tough technical class for all business majors, and some majors outside of the business school. He has made himself available for students and held review sessions for exams,” said Lambert. “Matt's enthusiasm is for learning and helping others. He embodies the Fisher motto - goodness, discipline, and knowledge. Matt brings it—enthusiasm, focus, and initiative—and he will do well in life.”

Jeffries said his favorite memory was during his sophomore year when the men’s lacrosse team won the Empire 8 Championship for the first time in program history.

“It was really inspiring to see our team come as far as we came from freshman year. Starting out, we were kind of middle of the pack, but we actually ended up being ranked by the end of my sophomore season. So, it was really cool to see and be a little bit a part of history,” he said.

Jeffries also encourages students to become involved.

“Whether you’re an athlete or business student, science major, or going for biology, there are really so many things across campus that you can get involved in. Just get involved and stay active and you’ll really be successful at Fisher,” he added.
