Mathematics Faculty Deliver Conference Presentations
Faculty members teaching in the Department of Mathematics and Computer Science have had an active spring, sharing their research and expertise at regional and national conferences.
Dr. Ryan Gantner, professor, was invited to deliver the plenary talk at the Mathematical Association of America (MAA) Seaway Section Conference at SUNY Oneonta. His interactive presentation, “How to be a Mathematical JEDI Knight,” explored the concepts of justice, equity, diversity, and inclusion in mathematics.
Drs. Kris Green, professor, and Dr. Mark McKinzie, associate professor, also gave presentations at the MAA conference. Green delivered the presentation, “Stability Analysis and Extension of a Discrete-Time Dynamical System for Scaffolded Learning,” while McKinzie explored the history of math in the presentation, “Hunting for Unpublished Materials using ArchiveGrid.”
One of the department’s most distinguished emeritus faculty members, Dr. Don Muench, also presented. His talk, “Solving Linear Systems of ODEs and Discovering Jordan Form,” continues his work on linear algebra that has yielded him several published papers over the past 10 years.
Dr. Erica Johnson, associate professor, recently gave a presentation at the International Conference on Technology in Collegiate Mathematics in Coronado, California. Her presentation, “Implications for Mathematical Engagement when Everyone has iPads,” showcased Fisher’s use of iPads as a learning technology.
