Leadership Excellence at Fisher: A New Chapter for Student Growth
This spring, the Office of Student Engagement and Leadership is launching a new initiative designed to help students grow as confident, collaborative leaders. The program, Leadership Excellence at Fisher (LEAF), is open to all undergraduate students.
LEAF offers a dynamic mix of workshops, coaching sessions, and events that encourage students to build confidence, strengthen communication and teamwork skills, and explore their personal leadership style.
Chris Keyes, director of student engagement and leadership, described the program as an ideal opportunity for students to share their experiences and learn from one another.
“The inspiration for this program has come from our team’s work with different student leaders across campus. We have noticed many students are eager to get involved in student organizations to develop their leadership skills. We have also seen a consistent need from these students to accumulate the tools necessary to be effective group leaders,” he said.
Participants will earn “leaves” for each activity they attend, and those who collect 25 leaves throughout the semester will receive a leadership certificate to recognize their growth and commitment. Although the program spans the full semester, the total time commitment is under 10 hours, making it accessible for students with busy schedules.
“We hope that students will be engaged learners with the material presented, bring real case studies and concerns, and apply the material learned to these case studies and in the future as they work within a group setting. The true goal is for them to apply this knowledge in their future careers,” added Keyes.
The application deadline is Thursday, Jan. 29, 2026, and the series kicks off with its first workshop on Thursday, Feb. 5, 2026. Additional workshops are scheduled throughout the semester, offering students multiple opportunities to engage, reflect, and connect with peers.
The online application includes additional details as well as workshop dates. For more information, students are encouraged to contact the Office of Student Engagement and Leadership at campuslife@sjf.edu or scan the QR code featured on promotional materials across campus.
