Dr. Kermin Martínez-Hernández, associate professor of chemistry, has been elected to the Society for Advancement of Chicanos/Hispanics and Native Americans in Science (SACNAS) National Board of Directors. He will serve a three-year term and contribute to the leadership of one of the nation’s largest multicultural STEM organizations.
As a board member, Martínez-Hernández will provide strategic oversight and financial stewardship for a society that now serves over 5,000 active members and more than 150 chapters nationwide. He is a life member of the organization and has been involved with the organization in different volunteer roles since 2006, serving as chapter chair, conference program committee co-chair, keynote speaker review committee co-chair, Puerto Rico sponsorship task force member, Puerto Rico cultural advisory group member, and organizer of the first SACNAS Midwest Regional Meeting. He has been attending the national conference since he was a graduate student and has led more than 20 professional development sessions, served as a judge, and presented Chapter of the Year awards at the conference main stage.
“I am very thrilled for the opportunity to serve on the SACNAS Board of Directors because SACNAS has been fundamental in my professional career development since 2006,” he said.
