Fisher Nurses Featured in 13WHAM-ABC News Story

June 11, 2019

The lifesaving care provided by two Fisher nurses was the subject of a 13WHAM-ABC news story this spring.

Nurse Practitioner Abby Avallone, a graduate of the Wegmans School of Nursing’s family nurse practitioner program, Registered Nurse Tempestt Black, a current student in the psychiatric mental health nurse practitioner program, and Ngao Nalungwe, a nurse practitioner, were on duty at the UR Urgent Care on Monroe Avenue when Brian Hickey arrived in the midst of an intense heart attack.

The team performed CPR on Hickey in the parking lot while awaiting the arrival of an ambulance. Their intervention, and the work of a team at Strong Memorial Hospital, saved Hickey’s life.
