Dr. Augustina West ’18 (Ed.D.) recently joined the Ralph C. Wilson, Jr. School of Education as director of the executive leadership doctoral program’s Iona University extension site.

Dr. Augustina West ’18 (Ed.D.)

West earned a bachelor’s degree in English from the State University of New York at Albany, a master’s in multicultural education from Iona University, and a master’s in school counseling from Long Island University. She earned her doctorate from the Ed.D. program in 2018.

She began her teaching career at William Howard Taft High School in the Bronx, New York, where she inspired a love for English and encouraged her students to reach beyond their limitations. She joined Ramapo High School in the East Ramapo Central School District, where she continued her role as an English teacher and enhanced students’ learning by organizing and arranging enriching experiences beyond the classroom.

After 10 years of service, she was appointed assistant principal of Ramapo High School. In this role, she led initiatives and implemented college readiness, career exploration, and mentoring programs that improved English Language Arts achievement, strengthened family and community partnerships, and contributed to significant increases in graduation rates. She was next promoted to assistant superintendent of secondary education. In this role, West oversaw five secondary schools. Her efforts as a member of the Superintendent’s Cabinet were rooted in implementing and managing initiatives and programs.

West retired from the East Ramapo Central School District in June 2024, serving the parents, students, and community for 28 years.

For her commitment to education, she has been recognized with the Women of Distinction Award by Congressman Mike Lawler and Fisher’s Arthur L. Walton Jr. Alumni Award for Distinguished Executive Leadership.

In addition to serving as Iona’s site director, West is also the founder of AW Educational Consulting, a platform that offers advisory services for parents, leaders, schools, and districts, as well as leadership training and coaching.
