Two Teams from the Wegmans School of Nursing Win First Place at Regional Conference

Two groups of scholars from the Wegmans School of Nursing at St. John Fisher University earned first place for their poster presentations at the Eastern Nursing Research Society’s Scientific Sessions.

Held in early April, the 37th annual Scientific Sessions brought together researchers and scholars dedicated to advancing nursing science in the eastern region of the United States.

At the conference, 12 faculty members and graduate students from the School of Nursing presented their scholarly work.

Drs. Katie Ledwin and Heather McGrane Minton presented the poster, “Sedation Depth and Total Duration of Mechanical Ventilation: A Retrospective Cohort Study,” which was completed alongside master’s candidate Trisha Redmond. The poster won first place in the School Selected Master’s Student Posters category.

Dr. Renata Lizak, a graduate of the School’s Doctor of Nursing Practice program, presented with Dr. Natalie Dixon. Their poster, “Care of Newly Admitted Adult Patients with Cirrhosis: A Quality Improvement Project,” won first place in the School Selected DNP Student Posters category.

Additional presentations included:

  • Michelle Slymon, McGrane Minton, and Tara Sacco presented the poster, “Psychometric Properties of the Eat Sleep Console Nurse Questionnaire.”
  • Drs. Melissa Bourne and Beth Kiss presented the poster, “Professional Development to Prepare Nursing Faculty to Teach about Intellectual and Developmental Disabilities.”
  • Dr. Alexis Munding presented her poster, “Redesigning Hospital Medicine Workflow to Optimize Safe Discharge Practices for Patients Who Leave Against Medical Advice,” research which was completed as a part of her doctoral studies at the University of Rochester.
  • Professors Liz Dollinger and McGrane Minton delivered the podium presentation, “Exploring the Impact of Educational Interventions on Nursing Students’ Attitudes Toward Individuals with Developmental Disabilities.”

The School of Nursing also served as a sponsor for the Scientific Sessions.
