Dr. Ann Marie Fallon has served as dean of the St. John Fisher University School of Arts and Sciences since 2017.
She has a distinguished career in academia, previously serving as provost and vice president for academic affairs at Marylhurst University and director of the University Honors College at Portland State University. Her extensive experience includes roles as a professor of Humanities and International Studies, Sustainability in the Humanities Scholar, and Fulbright Junior Lecturer in American Studies at the University of Trier, Germany. She is the author of three books and 15 articles and chapters on topics ranging from comparative literature to the public humanities.
Throughout her tenure at St. John Fisher University, Dr. Fallon has been instrumental in program and curriculum development. She co-chaired the committee that revised the University’s core curriculum, known as the Fisher Core, and launched a new Honors program, significantly increasing undergraduate research participation. She has also overseen the creation of new master’s and undergraduate programs, established accelerated degree pathways, and led initiatives to improve scheduling and registration processes.
In addition to her administrative achievements, Dr. Fallon is actively involved in the community, serving on the boards of Writers and Books and the Young Women’s College Prep Academy. She was a member of the Leadership Rochester 2023-2024 cohort and has participated in the Senior Leadership Academy for the Council of Independent Colleges.
She earned her Ph.D. in English Language, Literature, and Research from the University of Virginia in 2003. She also holds an M.A. in English Literature with a graduate certificate in Women’s Studies from the University of Virginia and a B.A. in English Literature with High Honors from Swarthmore College, where she was inducted into Phi Beta Kappa.
