Courage Bowl XVII Set for Saturday

September 21, 2022

On Saturday, Oct. 1, St. John Fisher University’s football team will travel to SUNY Brockport for one of the biggest games in Division III athletics: Courage Bowl XVII.

Fisher football players walk out to the coin toss with their honorary coaches.

More than a game, the annual contest is a staple in the community and raises funds for Camp Good Days and Special Times.

Tickets for the game, which begins at 6 p.m. at Bob Boozer Field at Brockport, are $5 and available online. Tickets will also be available for purchase at the ticket booth; game day prices are $5 for adults and $3 for senior citizens and non-Brockport students; children under five enter for free.

The Teddi Dance for Love Committee is sponsoring two busses to and from Brockport. The busses will leave at 5:30 p.m. from the Haffey Hall steps. Sign up online.

During the game, each team will have a special group of fans on their sidelines. Camp Good Days selects kids affiliated with their programs to serve as honorary coaches and cheerleaders for both teams. Many campers are unable to participate in organized sports; serving as coaches and cheerleaders gives them a unique experience to be a part of the game.

At the conclusion of the Courage Bowl, the Teddi Trophy, named in memory of Teddi Mervis, Gary Mervis’ daughter and the inspiration behind Camp Good Days, will be presented. The trophy is later inscribed with the date of the game, final score of the game, names of the honorary coaches and cheerleaders, and the names of one player from each team who displays exceptional leadership and sportsmanship.
