Pharmacy Faculty, Students Deliver Presentations at Host of Conferences

Over the last several months, faculty, students, and alumni have presented at pharmacy conferences across the country.

American Society of Health Systems Pharmacy (ASHP) Mid-Year Meeting, December 2022

Earlier this month, more than 25 students and faculty from the School of Pharmacy attended the ASHP Midyear Meeting in Las Vegas. It was the first year returning to an in-person event, with more than 20,000 attendees. 

Students presented 17 posters at the conference. P4 students Madison Lippa and Nadeem Omar, who won the School’s Patient Counseling Competition last month, represented Fisher at the meeting competing against more than 130 schools. 

Drs. Christine Birnie and Juliette Miller also hosted a pharmacy alumni event at the conference, with more than 30 individuals in attendance.

American College of Clinical Pharmacy Annual Meeting, October 2022

Several faculty attended the ACCP Annual Meeting earlier this fall. Drs. Lisa Phillips, and Amanda Foster presented at the conference, each highlighting their collaborative research projects with clinical colleagues. 

International Federation of Pharmacy (FIP) World Congress, September 2022

In September, FIP hosted its 80th World Congress in-person in Seville, Spain with more than 2,300 pharmacists and pharmaceutical scientists from 104 countries. Dr. Christine Birnie, delivered three presentations and coauthored a journal article in the academic section’s 50th anniversary special issue of Pharmacy Education, which was soft-released at a celebration during the conference. Two of the presentations, which were slated to be presented at the 2020 annual meeting but delayed due to the COVID-19 pandemic, were coauthored with fourth-year students at the time of the work and involved research conducted in India as part of the student’s international clinical rotation, making the international pharmacy conference an optimal location for dissemination. The third presentation discussed the impact of the equity in administration of the COVID-19 vaccine and was coauthored by Dr. Alex DeLucenay.

Pediatric Pharmacy Association Annual Conference, Summer 2022

Third-year pharmacy student Lauren Mann, presented at the Pediatric Pharmacy Association Annual Conference over the summer. Her mentor was School of Pharmacy graduate and PGY-1 Resident at Oishei Children’s Hospital, Dr. Aleah Groman. Mann won the Student Research Poster Award for the submission, “Comparison of Current Pharmacotherapy Agents for Treatment of Patent Ductus Arteriosus in Preterm Neonates.”

Pharmacy Society of the State of New York (PSSNY) Annual Meeting, June 2022

For the first time in the organization’s long history, PSSNY held in its annual meeting in Rochester this summer. A number of pharmacy faculty and alumni presented at the conference. Dr. Karl Williams, professor of pharmacy practice and administration, who served as president of the state-wide association this year, had an integral role in the planning of the conference. Drs. Lipika Chablani, Alex DeLucenay, Ramil Sapinoro, Beth Sutton Burke, and Joy Snyder each presented podium presentations at the conference, resulting in more than half the conference speakers having ties to the University.

American Association of Colleges of Pharmacy (AACP) Annual Meeting, July 2022

Six faculty and staff attended the American Association of College of Pharmacy (AACP) annual meeting in July, held in Grapevine, Texas. Dr. Ramil Sapinoro served as the school delegate, presenting the school poster.  Dr. Lipika Chablani delivered a podium presentation on the topic on “The Science of Stress and Improving Well-Being.” Dr. Birnie hosted an alumni and student event at the meeting, allowing five current students in the online pathway who live in the Dallas/Fort Worth area an opportunity to join the event.
