68 Students Inducted into Nursing Honor Society

This month, the Wegmans School of Nursing inducted 68 students into the Delta Chapter of Sigma Theta Tau, an international honor society for nurses, during a ceremony held at the Hermance Family Chapel of St. Basil the Great.

For more than 90 years, Sigma has recognized and celebrated excellence in scholarship, leadership, and service within nursing and midwifery. The society has more than 135,000 active members in more than 560 chapters in more than 100 countries around the world.

At Fisher, Sigma is led by Chapter President Alison Simpson, undergraduate chair of the nursing program, and faculty colleagues Desiree Branson (vice president), Dr. Natalie Masco-Dixon (treasurer), Lindsey Shor (secretary), Katie Ledwin (counselor), Katherine Grams (governance chair), and Maria Wheelock, Henry Moscicki, and Allie Nickel.

The society only extends membership to students in baccalaureate or graduate level programs who have demonstrated superior academic achievement, academic integrity, and professional leadership potential and to nurse leader candidates exhibiting exceptional achievements in nursing.

“Our membership includes top-notch nursing executives, clinicians, educators, researchers, policymakers, entrepreneurs, and others,” Simpson told inductees during the ceremony. “You are among this distinguished group of nurses—students and professionals—who have met or exceeded the rigorous standards required to receive an invitation to join Sigma, and you truly deserve our congratulations.”

At the ceremony, Erin Sabo, undergraduate simulation coordinator at the School of Nursing and Fisher alumna, delivered the keynote address. She spoke of her experience as a long-standing Sigma member, nurse, and educator.
