New Exhibit Celebrates Six Nations of the Grand River

St. John Fisher University is featuring a new exhibit, “100 Years of Hodinohso:ni Governance, Self-Determination, and Sovereignty,” at the Patricia O’Keefe Ross Gallery located in the Joseph S. Skalny Welcome Center.

Curated by the Woodland Cultural Centre in Brantford, Ontario, the exhibit explores Indigenous sovereignty and the rich history and governance of the Six Nations of the Grand River. It highlights Deskaheh Levi General’s historic 1923 work to secure Haudenosaunee representation at the League of Nations.  

The display also features materials on loan from the Woodland Cultural Centre alongside primary sources from St. John Fisher University’s George P. Decker papers. Learn more via the George Decker and Deskaheh Levi General LibGuide.  

The exhibit, on display through Friday, December 4, will be complemented by campus programming and special events throughout the fall 2026 semester and is supported by the School of Arts and Sciences and Lavery Library’s Archives and Special Collections. Gallery hours are Monday through Friday, 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. It is free and open to the public.
