Countdown to Commencement 2021: Catherine Healey

March 29, 2021

Nursing major Catherine Healey is the next member of the Class of 2021 to be featured in the “Countdown to Commencement” series. Healey was nominated by Monica Hope, the assistant men’s and women’s rowing coach.

As a member of the women’s rowing team since her freshman year, Healey served as captain for three seasons. She is also a Service Scholar and has served with the suicide prevention lifeline, Rochester City School District (RCSD), Autism Up, and her local high school to help produce their spring musicals throughout the years. On campus, Healey serves as the president of the Student Activities Board (SAB) and has been an orientation leader for three years.

The daughter of a nurse, Healey said once she decided in high school that she wanted to follow in her mother’s footsteps, their sights were set on Fisher.

“Everybody that my mom talked to said Fisher nurses are the best nurses. I’m also a Service Scholar, and seeing they had a service scholarship really showed that they valued people who wanted to help the community and had caring hearts. So, having those values of being kind and having that cliché Fisher Family feel really pushed me to want to be here,” she said.

Hope shared that Healey gives and expects so much of herself, but maintains her boundaries and strength. She has pushed herself to support her teammates, to make sure that incoming students feel welcomed and at home, to serve her campus community through opportunities with SAB, and to support her greater Rochester community through service at the RCSD and Strong Memorial Hospital.

“Catie is driven, brave, caring, and extremely motivated to be the best version of herself and help everyone around her do the same. She is the kind of personality who only comes around a few times in a lifetime - the kind you can count on to pick you up at the airport at 3 a.m. Catie will be the person who brings energy and life to her workplace, relationships, family, and every circle she is in,” said Hope. “She will be the person who makes an impact on every single patient, colleague, and all she comes in contact with and leaves every place better than it was before.”
