Fisher Senior to take Part in Prestigious Fellowship

Senior media management major Riley Moscicki has been accepted into the American Association of Advertising Agencies Foundation (4 A’s Foundation) Multicultural Advertising Intern Program (MAIP). MAIP is a 22-week talent development program for communications students of color.

After applying in October, Moscicki went through a semi-final interview in December, the final round of interviews in January, and learned in February that she was chosen by agency partner Hearst Magazines, one of the world’s largest publishers of monthly magazines including Elle Magazine and Harper’s Bazaar. Moscicki is one of about 300 communications students from across the country participating in the program, and will be spending her summer working out of Hearst’s New York City Office remotely.

“I am really excited to be a part of such an elite program that values adding diversity into the advertising industry and sees the potential multicultural students have in improving it. One of my goals is to help students of color break into the communications industry when I get further into my career. MAIP has not only given me first-hand experience about how great it feels to have support as a woman of color joining the industry but it has also made me even more eager to help other BIPOC further down the line,” shared Moscicki. “I also want to note that I am very thankful for Professor Arien Rozelle, Professor Lauren Vicker, and the professionals at CCAP for helping me through the application process!”

The journey has already begun for Moscicki, as she began her MAIP virtual spring training that will continue through the start of her internship in the first week of June. These mandatory training sessions cover a variety of topics including the basics of agency life, how to form valuable relationships with clients, how to improve interpersonal skills, and other transferable skills that can be implemented throughout the internship. The training sessions are led by a variety of advertising experts from different agencies and disciplines.

Her internship will conclude in the beginning of August and Moscicki will also get a personal MAIP coach who will help her with career development and navigate her role at Hearst for the duration of the internship. In addition, she will also be participating in MAIP lab classes each week to assist her in learning more about the industry and improve her career development opportunities.

Following the internship and MAIP, Moscicki will attend the Face of Talent Awards and the MAIP Career Fair, which will allow her to network with the over 100 agencies that participated in the program and potentially secure a job placement with one of them.

Going into this experience, Moscicki is hoping to learn more about the different roles in the industry and see which ones are a great fit for her. She is also looking forward to networking with as many people as she can from different disciplines like copywriting and strategy.

Although Moscicki cannot experience the move to the Big Apple with the other MAIP students, she has already begun meeting her fellow interns virtually.

“I have really enjoyed meeting so many great people in the program. I am only a month in and I have learned so much from other MAIP Fellows and it has made me really excited to start my career. I also can’t wait to work with Hearst Magazines and work with some awesome magazines,” shared Moscicki.
