Countdown to Commencement 2022: Alivia Collins

January 31, 2022

Nursing major Alivia Collins is the next member of the Class of 2022 to be featured in the “Countdown to Commencement” series. Collins was nominated by Jonathan Schott, assistant director of Campus Ministry.

The Corning, New York, native is the oldest of three siblings currently attending St. John Fisher College. Collins’ two sisters are Angelea, a sophomore business management major, and Victoria, a first-year student pursuing nursing.

On campus, Collins is part of the Campus Ministry Peer Minister Program. As a peer minister, she co-leads the Rites of Christian Initiation of Adults (RCIA) Program. Collins is currently on the cross country indoor and outdoor track team, serving as captain.

In her nomination, Schott mentions that he met her as a first-year student and immediately noticed her deep compassion for those around her, including her teammates, friends, and professors.

“When I think of Alivia, I will remember her passion to learn more and know more, and how the things she learns help shape her decision-making and self-awareness,” said Schott. “She will grow to be a caring, compassionate nurse that cares about the entirety of the patient's health, from what’s on the chart to what’s in their heart.”

Collins said she initially chose Fisher because of the community aspect and the concept of the Fisher family. As soon as she stepped foot on campus, she said it felt like home.

“Some advice that I would give to future Fisher students is definitely to enjoy your four years here because they go by very quickly and if an opportunity presents itself, take it even if you're on the fence about it,” said Collins. “I've been offered this great nursing program and they've provided me with a lot of opportunities to enhance my skills in nursing and also provided me with the tools to find a career.”

Following graduation, Collins will be pursuing a job in the nursing field.
