Countdown to Commencement 2022: Halle Tickell

February 7, 2022

Nursing major Halle Tickell is the next member of the Class of 2022 to be featured in the “Countdown to Commencement” series. Tickell was nominated by Jennifer Granger, associate athletics director.

The Sandwich, Massachusetts, native is a member of the women’s soccer team, indoor and outdoor track and field team, and Honors Program on campus. She is also a member of the Student-Athlete Advisory Committee, and has served as the Empire 8 female representative for the past two years. Finally, she is the events and collaboration captain on the Teddi Committee.

In her nomination, Granger recalled that she first met Tickell in the fall of 2018 when she was a freshman.

“During the pandemic, Halle kept the Student-Athlete Advisory Committee engaged and active which was really important not only for the committee but for student engagement,” said Granger. Tickell is currently working on making each of Fisher’s spring sport programs a Team Impact team, which tackles the emotional trauma and social isolation experienced by children facing serious and chronic illnesses by matching them with a college athletic team.

“Working with Halle has reminded me to think and be more aware of those around me and what they may be going through at that moment,” said Granger. “She has taught me to be a gentler version of myself.”

Tickell chose Fisher to fulfill her childhood dream of becoming a nurse. When she came to visit her senior year of high school, she said the campus checked off every box on her list of what she was looking for in a college education. She also said Fisher has provided her with endless opportunities to further her career and make strong connections along the way.

“If I could give any advice to future Fisher students, it would be to try that thing that is out of your comfort zone. It seems like something that might have been scary to do in high school, or scary to do before you came here,” said Tickell. “Just try it. Everyone is so supportive of people trying new things and it might be a thing that you love more than anything you would have ever thought.”
