Countdown to Commencement 2022: MacGregor Winegard

January 17, 2022

Economics and mathematics double major MacGregor Winegard, who is also a computer science minor, is the first member of the Class of 2022 to be featured in the “Countdown to Commencement” series. Winegard was nominated by Jonathan Schott, assistant director of Campus Ministry.

The Clifton Park, New York, native is a member of the Peer Ministry Program, a residential assistant, student ambassador, and serves on the Student Government Association (SGA) board as a senator. In addition, he is a member of Pi Mu Epsilon (National Mathematics Society), Teddi Dance for Love, and is currently serving as an executive intern in the Office of Institutional Advancement.

In his nomination, Schott said that Winegard has been a stalwart of the Office of Campus Ministry’s music program and has helped to expand interest in it since joining.

“MacGregor has made an impact as a leader among his peers in organizing and helping with music and the arts. Passionate about music, he's been a great advocate for growing the arts at Fisher. Simultaneously, MacGregor has actively sought out leadership positions that have benefited him and fit him well in a personal sense,” said Schott. “His commitment, care, and sense of humor are what I will remember most. He will be very successful in the future, whether it be an analyst or information technology executive.”

Winegard mentioned that it’s hard to summarize his Fisher experience because of the many memories he has created at the institution. However, when asked what three words best describe his time at Fisher, he said supportive, fun, and fast - and noted that everyone on campus wants students to succeed.

“From the teachers, the staff - everybody really wants to see you do your best. So I think there are always people who can help you out wherever you go. It's been fun. I've had so many great memories being an RA, doing all 24 hours of Teddi Dance for Love, going to club meetings, and just hanging out with friends in my room,” he said. “It’s been a wild ride. I've loved every moment of it.”

After graduation, Winegard will begin as a data engineer and developer at KPMG, a global network of professional firms providing audit, tax, and advisory services.
